Want to know how we work with Holaluz?

Holaluz is a Catalan tech company dedicated to supplying renewable-sourced electricity and gas. It also represents renewable energy producers in the electricity market and offers services related to photovoltaic self-consumption and electric mobility.

On its path to sustainable growth, the company chose to rely on partner companies specialized in agile engineering practices, with solid experience in remote work. The technical leadership team understood that, to move forward with confidence, it was essential to surround themselves with approachable people—those with strong communication skills, empathy for the business, and solid technical habits.

As there was already a connection through technical conferences, we began discussing a potential long-term collaboration. In June 2020, we officially started working together.

The Collaboration

The collaboration began with six Lean Mind team members fully integrated into two Holaluz teams. Five joined as developers, mainly working with Java—both improving legacy code and developing new features. PHP was also used to maintain some services and migrate others to Java.

The sixth person took on roles in management, facilitation, and team training. A key part of their work involved increasing the system’s automated test coverage, which included refactoring efforts that uncovered and fixed long-standing hidden bugs. One of the most impactful improvements was the redesign of the unpaid invoice collection system, which led to a significant increase in revenue.

During the second year, the collaboration focused on redesigning the core of the management system to replace the old ERP with a custom solution: precise, user-friendly, agile, and technologically modern. This new system was developed using TDD and a microservice-based architecture. An organizational split also took place, enabling Holaluz’s engineering team to grow significantly.

This long-term collaboration came to an end after two years, during a time of internal transformation at Holaluz, whose mission remains to bring green energy to households across the country.

Impact and Purpose

At Lean Mind, we felt especially happy during this collaboration, as Holaluz’s mission is deeply aligned with ours: building a better future—through renewable energy in their case.

Contributing to such a meaningful cause for the planet was an experience that filled us with motivation. Holaluz also placed a strong focus on people’s development, which allowed us to grow together.

Our involvement strengthened engineering and communication best practices, bringing energy, team support, and both technical and human tools that left a positive mark.

The 3 Magic Words

1. Trust

As Stephen M. R. Covey says in The Speed of Trust, there’s no faster way to move forward than by building trust. Holaluz’s expansion during that time wouldn’t have been possible without the mutual trust shared by everyone involved in the project.

2. Purpose

We both work toward a better world, and that was our common ground. This shared purpose drove us to achieve meaningful goals with commitment and purpose.

3. Commitment

At Lean Mind, we always gave our best, whether working with legacy code or developing new features—regardless of language or platform.

Holaluz, in turn, maintained a strong commitment to the continuity of the relationship. That long-term vision and dedication to a solid partnership were key to our shared growth. It allowed us to move forward and evolve together.

Reduce turnover, streamline internal processes, and make your end customers happier by having fewer bugs.
